06 Here we are at the point
where walkers at last leave the forest tracks. It had taken me one hour
twenty three minutes to here from the car park. There is a memorial here
within the stone circle to a young shepherd called Ralph Forlow who lost
his life in a blizzard trying to save his sheep - on 27th January 1954.
That's Loch Dungeon you can see and Meikle Lump beyond is on the right. You can see the memorial better in the second picture - with daffodils planted all around it. The third picture tells you what it says in the top half of the memorial and if you Mouseover the image you can see the poem in the lower half. On this site there are three other memorials to people lost in blizzard conditions - the other three were postmen. They are at Annanhead near the Devil's Beef Tub in the Moffat Hills, the Mull of Galloway and near Ballantrae |
