Return to Mull of Galloway - Return to Culter Fell
Below is a cutting from the Sunday Herald (formerly the Glasgow Herald) from 28th December 2008. This shows a monument to the postman called Robert Cunningham who died here in the course of his duties on 28th December 1908, gives the story of the tragedy and shows how the event is still remembered 100 years later. In the south west of Scotland there are at least two other monuments to postmen killed in this manner - on the Mull of Galloway and near the Devil's Beef Tub, and just below Millfire in the Rhinns of Kells there is a memorial to a 17 year old shepherd called Ralph Forlow who died in a blizzard tending his sheep on 27th January 1954.
