Mc George and John Goodfellow lost in a blizzard on 1st February 1831
near Annanhead
|
|||||
Below are two pictures of the monument to
two postmen (James McGeorge and John Goodfellow) lost in a snow storm near
Annanhead at the top of the Devil's Beef Tub on 1st February 1831. The Ordnance
Survey reference for this is NT062126. In the south west of Scotland there are at least two other monuments to postmen killed in this manner - on the Mull of Galloway and Ballantrae, and just below Millfire in the Rhinns of Kells there is a memorial to a 17 year old shepherd called Ralph Forlow who died in a blizzard tending his sheep on 27th January 1954. |
