03 Here is the view looking back down
to Kirkandrews from the cairn on Barn Heugh. To get here we had walked
up the track on the right of the picture from the houses. When we left here we made our way down to the shore and round the little bay that you see on the left of the picture in order to make our way to Carrick Shore. Below is the view from the cairn looking north east along the route we are about to travel. The hill in the background is Cairnharrow. The island marked by the red astrerisk is Barlocco Isle and beyond that is Ardwall. We will see these isles much more closely later in our walk. The thin sliver of land in the distance near the left edge of the picture is the Wigtown Peninsula - know as the Machars. The tide was well in at this point. It is possible to walk out to both Barlocco and Ardwall Isles at low tide. |
