02 Across the road from the houses is this old graveyard. We parked just to the left of the house in this picture. We met a monumental sculptor called Ian Swan from Kircudbright whose son, father and grandfather were also in that trade in this area. He talked to us for the best part of an hour about this graveyard and others in the area and about the processes of carving etc., It was fascinating!
The hill on the left of the picture called Barn Heugh has a cairn on top so we had to go up there and get the views from there before going anywhere else. Everyone around was very friendly in the village.
Below are a couple of the many gravestones that Ian pointed out to us. The one on the left is remarkable for the high relief of the carving. That's Adam and Eve by the way.
The one on the right is a gravestone to one of the many Covenanters who were murdered in this part of the world in the late 17th Century.
