04 In the picture
above we are looking almost due west from the slopes of Broken Back into
Moffat Dale. The deep gully to our left here is Selcoth Burn and you can
see a tiny red dot where the car is parked. The surface is a pleasant
one to walk on - there are plenty of sheep around to keep it cropped.
We will descend on the other side of the Selcoth Burn on the return leg. Looking north in the second picture we get a good view of three ridges in the Moffat hills. I was disappointed that there was not much snow on them and the sunshine was none too brilliant. Black Craig (with snow on top) is on the ridge nearest the left edge of the picture, then Saddle Yoke in the middle ridge with the dark face of Carrifran on the third ridge. The third picture was taken from Black Craig in the Moffat hills on a winter walk over Saddle Yoke, Hartfell and Swatte Fell and offers a fine view of the hills we are heading into today. If you mouseover you will get the names of the hills. |
