07 You cross a couple of forest roads on the way up and the view over the mouth of the Nith to Caerlaverock opens up. This is the higher of the two forest roads. For comparison see page 13 for a view of the lower forest road with the way-mark sign for the route to New Abbey.

As we climb up the shoulder of Criffel we get the view of Knockendoch which you see below.
