13 The three pictures shown on this page were taken on 1st December 2010, a totally different day from when the rest of the pictures in this web gallery were taken (19th February 2004). They show some images taken on a day when the road up to Mid Glen was so icy that my car could not get up it and so I returned to New Abbey, parked in the car park beside Sweetheart Abbey and did the circular walk from there which is mentioned on page 01

In the picture above we are coming down the route from the summit of Criffel towards Ardwall (the yellow route on page 01) and we are arriving at the lower of the two forest roads which that route crosses. There is a sign offering a route back to New Abbey by turning left here onto the forest track - instead of heading straight down to Ardwall. You can see the way-marker sign for this option in the middle of the picture.

In the first picture below we are down at the north end of Loch Kindar looking south across the iced-up loch. The road that takes you to the car park at Ardwall from the A701 is over there.

In the third picture we are looking over Loch Kindar again, towards Knockendoch and Criffel beyond it in the dwindling light of a winter's day.
