07 In the picture above we are now at the fence which runs from Meikle Shag to Comb Law and we are looking east towards the sharp V-shaped descent between Steygail and Wether Hill. Notice the fox tracks in the foreground of this picture.
You can see that with the cloud level being so low on the Lowthers there would not be an awful lot to see if I had gone to the top of Meikle Shag - except low cloud.
In the picture below I have taken a picture of a couple of the fox paw marks. I did not see Mr Fox but I did see plenty of hares all day long.
In the third picture I have zoomed in on the top picture to get a closer look at the V-shaped nick beside Steygail. You can see the A702 heading for the top of the Dalveen Pass at Troloss. You might like to compare this picture with that on page 27 which was taken at just about on the same compass bearing but at road level near the end of our walk.
