02 That is the house at Overfingland that you see in the above picture as we look east along the A702 ready to start our walk - 9.30am on Wednesday 4th March 2009. I was parked in the parking place, (OS Ref. NS928094) mentioned in the Lowther/SUW web gallery.
When I left Dumfries, around 8.20 am, there was no sign of snow except on cars coming into town from the north. It had been a nasty wet day on the Tuesday and I expected more of the same. I just couldn't believe my luck as the prospect of such a magical day began to offer itself - Tuesday's rain in Dumfries had fallen as snow here. So you can imagine the excitement of knowing that you have a whole day ahead to just wander the hills at will on a day such as this (with a scene like that in the first picture below to whet the appetite right away) as we head along the road to where the Southern Upland Way leaves it - third picture.
There is a good view down onto this section of the SUW in the Dun Law web gallery just click on the link to see it.
