09 I could have made life a bit easier
for myself by following the Folk Burn up into the bowl but I quite like
a bit of a scramble and also I was quite keen to get up onto the ridge to
see what the weather was doing. I had driven from Dumfries in quite a thick
mist but the forecast was for this mist to burn off in the heat of the day
- with 14 degrees Celsius forecast. So I was happy to gamble on the mist
lifting. Also, I could hear on the car radio that it was a beautiful day
up in Glasgow. The top of that ridge would tell me what was in store for
me - and up I went directly onto North Gairy. In a situation like this you eye up the terrain of the hill for a likely route up and I could see where I should go. In the second picture, zooming in on the picture above, you can see a detail of the top part of the climb. Mouseover to see the route I was thinking of. This was the steepest bit of the whole day's walk but really there was no scambling involved. |
