Below is the cairn at the top of Carlin's Cairn - one of the biggest in the south of Scotland. Legend has it that this cairn dates back to the time of Robert the Bruce, and was built by a miller's wife in gratitude for land given her by the Bruce after she had helped to hide him from his enemies under bags of flour. In fact the cairn may be much older than this.

Above is the view from the top of Carlin's Cairn looking north to Meaul ( with the figures on it). The Loch is Loch Doon. From here it is quite possible to see the hills well beyond Glasgow on a decent day. We could see the Isle of Arran quite clearly, but the photograph is not good enough for that. In the shot below Sandy is having his "piece" (lunch) on the lee side of the cairn of Carlin's Cairn with Cairnsmore of Carsphairn just left of the middle of the picture and the Scaur hills beyond.

Below we are on our return journey, heading back down from Corserine making for Millfire etc. So you are looking along the length of the south end of the Rhinns with Dungeon Loch on the left.

View from Millfire towards Corserine
On the left is the view back from Millfire towards the great whaleback lump of Corserine. You can see how flat she is on top and how her shoulders run off east and west ready to trap the inadequate navigator.
Below we are on the top of Milldown looking down on Dungeon Loch and the shoulder of Meikle Lump running down to it. The final shot was taken early in the day before the weather changed and shows the rock face of Meikle Millyea from the Rig of Clenrie.
