01 I built this web gallery and put it on line in December 2008 using pictures taken on 10th December 2008. However, I was out on much the same route again on 24th January 2009 in much snowier conditions and I got some good shots before the mist closed in on us as we headed from Lochcraig Head over to White Coomb. I have added some of these shots to the original web gallery which will explain the strange sequence of page numbers.
In the map above you will see that there are 3 routes shown. The one illustrated in this web gallery is the gold one starting and finishing by the A708 (Moffat to Selkirk road) by the Grey Mare's Tail (bottom right of the map).
However, I have included the other two routes because these three routes very much relate to one another and together they build up a clear picture of what this area is like - there being Web Galleries already on this site for them. The blue route you will find at Lochcraig Head from Megget Stane and the pink route you will find at Broad Law and Dollar Law
You can go further north still to North Manor Hills and on to Culter Fell Round beyond that. This string of adjoining routes have all been added to this site since the summer of 2008.
There are also some pages called Grey Mare's Tail and Loch Skene Routes which have been on the site for a few years.
The picture below shows the view from the car park on 24th January as we started our walk. There was snow at road level and low lying mist which we knew we would climb above into clear sunshine. We could see this as we drove along to get here. I have put a border round each of the January shots but it will be quite obvious anyway which ones they are
