Criffel and Knockendoch from the east bank of the River Nith Criffel and Knockendoch from the east bank of the River Nith Criffel and Knockendoch from the east bank of the River Nith

02 These three pictures show what Criffel and Knockendoch look like like from the east bank of the River Nith. There is quite luxuriant growth along the river bank.

In the third shot we are looking down the estuary towards Carsethorn, Powillimout and Southerness (right out at the point) on the coast south of Criffel. There is some interesting walking along the shore over there and even a little rock climbing at Powillimont. John Paul Jones, regarded by some as the founder of the American navy came from just over there at a place called Arbigland.
