09 Just south of the cairn there is a triangulation point. The top of Criffel is roughly 1800 ft (569 metres) above sea level. We are level with the cairn here and it is just out of the picture on the left.

Below we have Douglas's cairn on the top of Criffel on the right of the picture with the Solway Firth and the Lake District beyond (to the south).
