05 The
vehicle track soon gives way to a path through the trees. You can see the
path is way-marked and easy to follow. On this route there used to be a fair bit of scrambling over sections of small rock outcrops like the one in the picture below. These rocks could be very slippy in wet conditions. Since this picture was taken however much work has been done to the route to make it more user-friendly and these boulders are now like steps and much more easy to negociate. You might think that this takes the fun out of things but this is a popular tourist route used by people who are not used to walking up hills and who feel that climbing Criffel is a major achievement for them. The route can therefore be a good introduction to hill walking for such people. Families often take quite young children up here too. |
