18 This is the view from the Merrick back down over the Nieve of the Spit to Benyellary as we start on our journey back to the car at Glen Trool. You can see what a narrow saddle the Nieve is. It has a bay of hills around it on either side so that the wind is concentrated quite ferociously over the saddle - saddles are always the worst places for wind on a hill. You lean into the wind when it is gusting then stagger in the direction it is coming from when it suddenly drops between gusts. It is not easy to hold a camera steady in such conditions and many of these pictures have had to be straightened up because the horizon was far from horizontal in them. I was also using a much faster shutter speed that I would normally use in a landscape shot to avoid "camera shake"!
