07 Here we are looking back down the Gairland Burn towards Mulldonoch. As you can see there is plenty of water in the burn, testifying to our wet summer here in Britain. Though it is a popular route up here, this section of our walk along the Gairland Burn does not have a single well-formed path. It is almost always so wet and soggy under foot that people try to avoid the holes and stretches of watery mud by creating ever more paths of their own. So it is rough ground with regular areas of small boulders to negociate - and the holes in the ground that go with them - combined with all the watery mud stretches, and you simply try to find the best way you can through it. Not suitable for high heel shoes really. But that is hillwalking, especially in Galloway. |
