36 In the picture above we are back at the road end for Dryhope (on the right here) looking SW along the A708 with a ten minute walk back to the car and black clouds in the west threatening rain.
The picture below brings us back to where we started.
There is a novel written by the Scottish novelist Alasdair Gray and published in 1994 called History Maker which is set in this area. The action takes place at some indefinite point in the future - distinctly weird.
Here is a link to a fascinating website run by the National Library of Scotland about the news casting "broadsides" which informed ordinary folk of the goings-on in their country. I have taken you straight to a famous Border Ballad called the "Dowie Dens of Yarrow" because of the immediate connection with this web gallery - it's up to you from there.
