03 I have put these pictures here (a wee bit out of context) so that you can get a feel for the general layout of our route - these pictures were taken (on quite a different day from the rest shown on this present web galley) from the Ettrick Hills looking back across the valley of Moffat Dale to the Grey Mare's Tail with Loch Skene above it and above that again the hills we will go onto today. For the route along the ridge on the Ettrick Hills side of Moffat Dale try the Bodesbeck Ridge Web Gallery.
In the picture below I have zoomed in on the above picture so that you can get a closer look at Loch Skene and our hills for today. Just mouseover and you will get the names of the hills.
The third picture takes you in closer on the Grey Mare's Tail. You can see the path quite clearly going up to Loch Skene - which sits over 510 mts above sea level. The car park at the bottom is roughly 220 mts above sea level so it is a 300 mt climb from the car park to Loch Skene.
