02 In the picture above you can see where to park to the right of the gate. Blackshope house lies to the left of the gate and as you can see by the cones you should not really park on that side - no doubt someone in the past has abused the privilege of parking there. You can also see that there is no long walk in to get to this route - as soon as you go through the gate you are in open country. Just go up the track a bit and then bear to the right for the stile and up you go onto Saddle Yoke. You can see a figure on the track near the left edge of the picture; that is the only person I saw all day in these hills.
Below is the view down Moffatdale as we make for Saddle Yoke. Capplegill is in the middle of the picture and Blackshope, where we parked, is by the left edge. You can see that there was no snow at this level and the weather prospect was for a fine sunny (if cold) day.
