02 Here we
are on the A708 before 9.30 am. The forecast was for a reasonably good
morning with possible snow in the afternoon. The prominent hill slightly
to the right of centre is the front of Broken Back. Broken Back has two
tops, the one facing this way is 449 metres high and the one which you
can see behind it is 509 metres. We turn off the A708 at the sign for Selcoth Fish Farm and follow the track round to where the red asterisk is in the above picture - parking just beside where the Selcoth Burn runs off the hill. Then we head up the track that you can see to the left of the trees. Once over Broken Back we carry on to hill that you can see beyond its two tops - Capel Fell. I have placed a blue asterisk to show where you meet the track again at the end of the day when you descend from Crofthead - the lower slopes of which are on the right of the picture. Behind this frontage of hills is a hidden world away from everyone - I saw no one else all day. |
