View from Alhang to Windy Standard The picture on the left shows the view back from Alhang to Windy Standard as the evening light begins to take over. You can see there is a fair bit of descent and re-ascent to get from Windy Standard to here. The view below is also from Alhang looking SW over the route we went up, then beyond that Moorbrock, with Cairnsmore of Carsphairn looming over it, and Benniner showing above it to the left of Cairnsmore.

Afton Reservoir from Alwhat
The picture on the left shows the view of the Afton Reservoir from Alwhat. You pass the source of the River Afton in the saddle between Alhang and Alwhat.
The River Afton was the subject of a song written by Robert Burns (Scotland's national bard), called "Flow gently sweet Afton".
In the picture on the right evening is really coming on us as we descend Lorg Hill back down to the Water of Ken. We are looking SW here down the valley of the Ken.The picture below was taken from the top of Lorg Hill before we started descending. Here we are looking due east beyond Polskeoch to the rest of the Scaur Hills and beyond them to the Lowther and Durisdeer Hills. Mouseover to see hill names etc.
