08 Here we are entering the gorse area. It can be a bit wet and mucky in here and is not a place for short trousers.
Just after this you can leave the path and drop down towards the sea to have a look at a monument commemorating an incident which took place on 6th December 1866. The area around the monument is a very pleasant area to have a bit of a break - with fine hollows among the rocks offering a bit of shelter on a windy day. That's Barcloy Hill ahead of us and the route there again follows the edge of the field but in this case outside the field. You can also see the remains of an old house just vertically above the monument. Our route will take us past it.

Monument to Captain Samuel Wilson of Palnackie.
