East Stewartry Coast Nation Scenic Area |
Torr
Point - Almorness Point and
Hestan Island - Portling
to Castle Point -
Screel and Bengairn |
This area lies some 20 miles west of Dumfries. Take either the A710 or the A711 from Dumfries. The A711 is the more direct route and brings you through Dalbeattie. This road carries on past Palnackie (as you can see on the map below) to Auchencairn, then past Dundrennan Abbey and on to Kirkcudbright. For the routes on the Almorness and Torr peninsulas, the Screel and Bengairn route and the Balcary Rascarrel Route the A711 through Dalbeattie is the way you would go. For routes around Sandyhills, Portling and Rockcliffe the A710 from Dumfries via New Abbey would be the road to take - it is the more scenic anyway. |
