02 The picture above shows the sizeable carpark at Physgill for those intending to visit the cave. The walk from here to the cave is very popular - it takes about 20 mins and is a very pleasant stroll down through the woods of Physgill Glen (see the third picture on this page). The OS reference for the car park is NX432366. Near the left edge of the picture you can see an information board and in the picture below you can see what it says.
There are several information boards like this in the area. The crude map here shows where Whithorn lies at the south end of Wigtownshire. Besides the St Ninian connection, this area is also a very rich area for pre-christian settlements, burials, etc as for example at Cairnholy or Drumtroddan.
