02 To get to the start of this walk you turn right off the A701 at the working cornmill in New Abbey (which is run by Historic Scotland). You go up the single track road past the left side of the mill pond. The picture above shows the view as you enter New Abbey from Dumfries on the A701. You can see Knockendoch with Criffel behind it. You go past the roadend where the car is coming out, cross the bridge and take the first right immediately after it.

In this web gallery pictures are used from a walk done on 13th February 2002, from one done on 27th Feb 2004, from one done on 1st December 2010 and from one done on 5th September 2012. The picture above is from 2004 the second picture is from 2012 and the third is from 2010.

The second picture shows the millpond beside the cornmill in New Abbey and is taken from the start of the single track road that goes up to Mid Glen. We are looking back towards the cornmill which is the white building on the right edge of the picture.

The third picture is a view along the single track road to Mid Glen with Knockendoch and Criffel on the left of the picture. On this day in 2010 the ice was so bad on the road I could not get up to Mid Glen by car, so I parked in Sweetheart Abbey car park and walked up from there. The pictures with snow in them in this web gallery are from this walk in 2010.
