14 The ball on the top of Lowther
makes quite a statement when you get up close. The second picture shows the route ahead of us from Lowther to Green Lowther, along the tarred road which services all this weird and wonderful equipment. The poles are for finding the road in deep snow of course. A small tracked vehicle had just gone up the road as I left the generator shed. That is not Green Lowther that you see in this picture - there is a small top between Lowther and Green Lowther with it's own set of toys to play with. This top is unnamed on the Landranger (1:50,000) map but called Green Trough on the Explorer (1:25,000). In the third picture we are half way along towards Green Trough and you can see how the wind has sculpted the snow on either side of the road. |
