22 Here we are looking SSW from near the top of Lamachan towards Larg Hill which you will see from another angle in later pictures.
Below is a map of a route we have used onto these same hills coming in from the south at Auchinleck. We have done this route a couple of times in an anti-clockwise direction. From Auchinleck you walk on forest road until you come to Stronbrae Hill when you have to find a way through the trees up onto the hill - just look for a likely gap and go for it. It is the same on the return leg - when you come off Larg Hill there is a forest road that you take all the way back to Auchinleck but again you have to get through some trees first. The first time we did this route we came right down to Garlick Hill before going into the wood but it wasn't very easy trying to get through the wood.
However, I am not keen on walking so much on forest road and I much prefer the routes into the Minnigaff Hills from the north, though to get a fully rounded picture in your head of a particular locality you do have to come at it from all angles - before you feel that you know the personality of an area and can feel in tune with it. Going into an area you have never been before always adds an extra dimension to your day's walk too.
