03 Before starting on my walk for the day I thought I would get some new pictures of Bruce's stone and the area round about it. A short path goes in from the part of the car park shown in the previous page to the spectacular setting of the stone which you can see near the right edge of the picture above. Loch Trool lies below and the Steeps of Trool where the battle took place is on the far side of the loch at the foot of the rugged Mulldonoch which in this picture almost looks like a huge bubbling mass that has been instantly solidified with all the bubbling surface cast in rock.
The first picture below shows the contents of the information board that you see in the picture above (click on this picture to see a larger version of it.
The second picture below gives a flavour of the Buchan Woods just where the track crosses the Buchan Burn. What a prospect it is to walk down across that bridge with all the anticipation of a whole day's walking ahead of you on such a fine day as this - freeedom.
