17 Here is where we join the A708. We turn to the right here towards Moffat but only go as far as the Hogg Monument and the toilets - one and three quarters miles away as the sign says. Your heart might fall at the thought of walking this distance along a main road, but the road is not very busy, there is a good verge to walk on and there is plenty to see on the way.
