08 As we head off from the top of Hartfell
we immediately cross the fence that you see in the above picture and then
take a due south bearing to find the top of Arthur's Seat - you will definitely
need a compass for that in mist of course - when it is easy to go wrong
here. So you are to an extent turning back towards the way you have come
up, but instead of following that fence line you now head to the right diagonally
away from it at an angle of 45 degrees - we are looking south east in this
picture. The hills that you see in the distance on the left half of the picture are the Ettrick Hills which lie beyond Moffatdale. There is an excellent walk along the Bodesbeck Ridge there which gives you fine views into the Moffat hills. |
