04 Having crossed the Auchencat Burn we are now heading east along the hillside on the south bank of the burn. The track on the hillside on the other bank in these two pictures is the one we have just left that takes you directly to Moffat Spa. Our route will bring us back that way. The scree-filled scar on Arthur's Seat above Hartfell Spa is directly above Sandy in the picture above - we will also come down that later in the day.
The second picture shows the view back to where we have come from and we are now well above the height of the track on the other bank. In the distance you can see the line of the A701 running across the picture just this side of the tree line. The newly born River Annan is running from right to left down in the valley (Annandale) between here and there.
