01 The above map is extended south as far as the town of Moffat so that you can see where to pick up the road to our parking place beside the community hall in upper Annandale.
As you head out of Moffat on the Devil's Beef Tub road (A701) and just before you leave town you will meet a fork in the road with the A701 taking the left fork. You take the right one here. You will see Moffat Secondary School on your right as you do so.
You travel quite a way up this narrow road till you leave behind the houses which are on either side of it and you are emerging out into open country. There you will find the hall (as shown on page 02) on your right. There is parking there for a few cars but you are asked not to park over the gate beside it - though with several letters missing from the sign it is a bit difficult to make that out.
It is strongly recommended that you do this route anti-clockwise. I think when you see the pictures you will realise why - it is much easier and a lot more fun coming down the scree- filled gully to Moffat Spa from Arthur's Seat than trying to go up that way.
The track to Hartfell Spa is well signposted and fancy new gates have been put in to make life easy for you. We start by going up this track and then we leave it to cross the Auchencat Burn to get up onto Blue Cairn.
