Chapelgill Hill, Culter Fell and Tinto Hill from Gathersnow Hill. Chapelgill Hill, Culter Fell and Tinto Hill from Gathersnow Hill. Chapelgill Hill, Culter Fell and Tinto Hill from Gathersnow Hill.

23 This picture is actually two shots joined together because the shot was too wide for my camera at that distance. Chapelgill is on the right, Culter Fell in the middle, Tinto to it's left and Moss Law to the left of that. This gives you the chance to get the whole scheme of things into your head should you be heading for these hills.
These hills may not exactly be hard-wired in my head now but I feel that I know my way around already and studying the pictures I take is a great way for me to work it all out. The Ordnance Survey maps are poured over carefully before you go out on a new route and relished with great satisfaction at you ease in the aftermath. The metre stick is laid out over the map and compared with the photographs to line up and check what features exactly are in the pictures. This is the way I get the whole thing in my head and you feel that you know your country so much better having seen the general layout from the hills than you could ever get as a flatlander merely travelling on roads.
