19 In this picture we are looking down Loch Skene to where the Tail Burn runs out of the loch (at the far end) and then heads for it's drop down the Grey Mare's Tail waterfall and into Moffatdale. Moffatdale runs from left to right across the picture beyond the drop. On the far side of Moffatdale the Bodesbeck Ridge also runs from left to right across the picture. You get excellent views of Grey Mare's Tail waterfall and the Moffat Hills from the Bodesbeck ridge. Moffatdale separates the Moffat Hills from the Ettrick Hills so the hills over there are the Ettrick Hills and the source of the River Ettrick is just beyond (south of) Bodesbeck Law which is at the SW end of the Bodesbeck ridge.
Loch Skene is fully 510 metres above sea level and may be the highest decent sized loch in the south of Scotland. Loch Skene is also home to the rare vendace fish which seems to be thriving there while numbers drop elsewhere.
Notice the glare bouncing off the surface of the loch at the Tail Burn end.
Below I have included a cutting from the summer 2008 edition of the "Scotland in Trust" the quarterly magazine for members of the National Trust for Scotland. It is from the letters page.
