01 This walk was done on 10th March 2010 and did not quite go to plan. We have come into these hills from this side a couple of times in the past and were able to park much nearer to Moorbrock house. However, on the day in question it was not possible to take the car up the track from Craigengilian because they were harvesting wood from the forest and I was advised not to take my car any further than the gate into Moorbrock estate otherwise I might find the gate locked when I tried to come back out. Parking at the gate and walking in from there adds around 2 miles to your day's walk.
The route taken in this web gallery is the blue route. However, the ascent onto Beninner on this route is quite steep and presents a minor scramble near the top. so the green and purple alternatives are shown for those who don't fancy scrambling or a bit of exposure to steep drops.
To get here you take the single track B729 Moniaive to Carsphairn road and just where this road crosses Water of Ken (over the only hump-back bridge on the road) you will find the single track road which runs from there alongside Water of Ken towards its source.
The picture below shows the view of Beninner (left of centre) and Moorbrock Hill (right of centre) that you get on the B729 as you head towards that hump-back bridge from the direction of Moniaive.
