15 In the picture above we are about to leave the island again. Near the left edge of the picture you can see that the sea was already creeping in towards that channel off Almorness.
In the second picture I am standing in the channel looking over towards Balcary Bay Hotel. I wanted to check if this channel was shallow enough to cross with the hill walking boots I had on without getting my feet wet - it wasn't. Clearly though if you were getting seriously caught by the tide it would be safer to get the feet wet crossing here onto Almorness than risk crossing the bay to Balcary. This would mean a fair old walk back to your car round Auchencairn Bay to Balcary but at least you would be ashore safely without having to wait some ten hours or so to escape from the island.
