01 This is a walk through
an area which is very rich in historical interest - ancient and modern.
The modern connection is with Gavin
Maxwell whose family had an estate at Monreith.
Our walk will take us through this estate where we will have a look at
the 16th century Myrton
Castle and the crannog
nearby it. We will visit the memorial to Gavin Maxwell (in the form of
an otter) which is near to the remains of Kirkmaiden
Church (one of the oldest churches in Scotland) - there is another
Kirkmaiden
Church in the Rhins of Galloway which can lead to a bit of confusion. |
