17 Caerlaverock
Castle viewed over the mote from the south. This
castle was built in late the 13th century, but over the
centuries, in the course of the wars
of independence , it took a bit of a pounding
both from Scots and English armies and was restored several
times. The 3 storeyed section you see in this picture was
built around 1634 and the interior still conveys a strong
feeling of having been lived in - with it's fireplaces and
windows etc.
