Approaching Caerlaverock Castle from Castle Wood


16 Here we are approaching Caerlaverock Castle from the wood. Coming through this way you would be liable to pay for entry to the castle.

Historic Scotland do an excellent job of looking after the properties in their hands and once you have paid your membership you get into their properties for free - such places as Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle and the amazing Border Abbeys - Melrose Abbey where Robert the Bruces' heart is buried, Dryburgh Abbey where Walter Scott is buried, and the excellently presented Jedburgh Abbey. I could of course add many other places such as the world heritage site on Orkney which has places such as the 5000 year old village at Skara Brae (older than the pyramids) and the spectacular burial chamber of Maes Howe........
