02 This is the car park at the visitor's centre by Clatteringshaws Loch (O.S. Ref. NX552763). It lies beside the A712 New Galloway to Newton Stewart road. Parking for a day costs £1 here but there is plenty of parking just along the lochside costing nothing, and since this is a circular route which comes along the lochside anyway there is nothing really to be gained by using the visitor's car park - except for use of the visitor centre facilities. Personally I hate having to pay to park - on principle - it is against the whole notion of freedom to roam at will. Fortunately there are very few access points for routes shown on this site where you have to pay to park. At least here you get the benefit of some good facilities for your money.
